Some would say that 2017 was the year that America broke. In the words of Ta-Nehisi Coates, we saw in more ways than one on the national stage that “race is the child of racism, not the father." More than ever we questioned how our community members could feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work amidst the news cycles, and, after the violence in Charlottesville, we intentionally reflected on how we could continue to provide support to you regardless of the miles that separate us.

Much of what has gone on this year has been unsettling. But, amidst the darkness, hope has prevailed because you, our community members, continue to show up. You’ve shown up to defend and make sure we are accurately represented in the media, at the ballot boxes, and in the workspace. So cheers to you, to POCs, this 2017. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.

We created The Well not as a means to an end (or to help our partner companies further check a diversity box), but as a means to a whole new beginning. So that scrolling through your social feeds and finding an exec of color doling out career advice wouldn’t be so rare. So that it would be normal to see ourselves in boardrooms, classrooms, creative spaces, science labs, films and television, foreign countries, and any other places we wish to inhabit. Below we’ve gathered the ‘best of’ The Well this 2017. These articles highlight the bold moves you’re making that have inspired all of us here at Jopwell. We hope you enjoy.
